POSITION AVAILABLE: ORGANIST

Serves as Organist for the Joint Venture Churches:  the Episcopal Church of Almaden (ECA) and the Almaden Valley United Church of Christ (AVUCC) beginning as soon as available..
Joint Venture Churches of Almaden, Inc. is the official/legal employer. The person holding the position will work under the oversight of the Joint Venture Music Director and cooperatively with the Pastor, Music Committee and other planners of AVUCC worship and with the Rector, Worship Committee and ECA musicians to support the music programs of both churches.
A Search Committee composed of the Joint Venture Music Director, the clergy, and members of both congregations will interview and recommend the candidate to the churches and the Joint Venture Board.
Serving in this capacity, the person named above shall understand and support the particular theologies and uniqueness of each church and shall:
a.   Provide organ music (or piano music when appropriate) including prelude, postlude, offertory and accompany hymns, and accompany choirs for UCC Sunday Service at 9:00 a.m. and the ECA Sunday service at 11:00 a.m. One Sunday a month, the congregations have alternative (folk) music for worship. The Organist is not required to attend on that Sunday.
b.   Provide organ music for both churches during the following special services: Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, and such other special services and choral presentations as are mutually agreed upon between the Organist, Music Director and the worship leadership of each church.
c.   Rehearse weekly with the Shalom Choir (UCC) on Wednesday evenings (7:30-9:00 p.m.) and Sunday mornings 30 minutes prior to service and with the ECA Choir on Thursday evenings (7:30-9:00 p.m.) and Sunday mornings 30 minutes prior to service. Rehearsals may also include quartets, soloists and such other ensembles as are deemed appropriate. On occasional, additional limited rehearsal of Youth and Bell Choirs may be required. (Note that choirs do not perform during the summer months.)
d.   Hymn, service music and choir anthem selections will be provided by the Music Director and clergy.  Prelude, postlude and occasional music should be coordinated with the Music Director and appropriate to the season and the music style of the individual congregations.

f.    Be allowed the right of first refusal for all weddings and funeral/memorial services requiring organ music that take place in the church. When unable to play for a wedding or memorial service, it shall be the responsibility of the wedding party and/or pastor to engage and arrange payment for a substitute. The services of other organists may be used only with the permission of the regular organist. The fee for a wedding shall be $150.00, with an additional $75.00 if attendance is required at the wedding rehearsal. An additional fee of $50.00 will be charged for working with a vocal or instrumental soloist. The fee for a funeral/memorial service shall be $150.00.
The beginning sa1ary range is $10,000-12,000 payable on a monthly basis on approximately the 15th of the month by the Joint Venture Board Treasurer. The salary shall be reviewed annually. One week off per quarter off is provided after six months of service. One week’s sick leave per year from Sunday services and a week’s rehearsals is granted.
